Funding Disability Services in Rhode Island

More than 20,000 people with disabilites, 5,000 dedicated staff and 35 providers of disability service are asking lawmakers one thing: Fully fund disability services.

New legislation is expected soon that would increase funding for disability services:

Why This Legislation Matter

A recent state-mandated review found that Rhode Island’s disability services system is in need of more funding. The Governor’s proposed budget currently funds only 50% of that recommendation.

Advocates are thankful for the funding increase and are asking for 100% funding. Disability services have not received a funding increase in a couple of years as overhead, utilities and insurance costs all have increased.

Full funding results in:

  • ✅ Services for people with disabilities
  • ✅ Less staff turnover
  • ✅ Provider stability
