Best & Worst Cities For People with Disabilities

A new study ranks how well U.S. cities support people with disabilities. Two Rhode Island communities made the list.

The report compared 182 cities across the country, looking at things like economic opportunity, quality of life and access to health care.

Minneapolis, MN, St. Louis, MO and Scottsdale AZ ranked at the top for their mix of affordability, accessibility and strong community support. At the other end were Juneau, AK, South Burlington, VT and Gulfport, MI, which faced more challenges around access to services and economic opportunity.

In Rhode Island, Providence ranked 126th overall, with Warwick close behind at 138th. Both cities rank in the bottom third of the report and highlight the need for improved legislation.

By investing in accessibility and universal design, Rhode Island can help ensure that all residents can live comfortably and participate fully in their communities.
