Christmas in Sign Language

Christmas music fills the air. We hear it in stores, in cars and at family gatherings.

At Christmas in Sign, Christmas music becomes something else entirely. It becomes something you see.

Performers take beloved holiday songs and translate them into American Sign Language using movement, expression, rhythm and joy to tell the story of each song. The result isn’t just accessible. It’s powerful.

This year marked the 37th annual Christmas in Sign, a free, family-friendly tradition hosted by The James L. Maher Center. What began decades ago continues to be a reminder of what inclusion looks like when it’s done right. It’s not an afterthought, its foundation.

The audience wasn’t just watching a performance. They were sharing an experience where deaf and hearing community members could enjoy the same music in the same space.

That’s the magic.

If you ever have the chance to attend Christmas in Sign, take it. And until then, we highly recommend watching this year’s performance. It’s a beautiful reminder that the best traditions are the ones that make room for everyone. 🎄✨
