An upcoming Disney+ movie will follow the journey of a sixth grader with cerebral palsy.
Based on Sharon Draper’s best selling novel, Out of My Mind follows Melody Brooks, who is non-verbal and uses a wheelchair, as she navigates the challenges of middle school.
Despite facing barriers, Melody’s sharp mind and quick wit shine through.
Actress Phoebe-Rae Taylor has cerebral palsy and stars as Melody, joined by a talented cast that includes Jennifer Aniston, who lends her voice to portray Melody’s inner thoughts.
Taylor, reflecting on her film debut, shares, “I just want people to understand that people with disabilities aren’t just objects, that they’re people with emotions and feelings, and they shouldn’t get pushed aside.
“Out of My Mind” not only entertains but also aims to educate viewers about the experiences of individuals with cerebral palsy, encouraging understanding and compassion.
Set to release on November 22, “Out of My Mind” serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusivity and the impact of supportive communities.
