Purple Alert Bill Passes Rhode Island Senate

PROVIDENCE, RI – State Senators have unanimously passed the PURPLE Alert Bill. Rhode Island is now just one step away from being the sixth state in the country to have this life-saving effort.

Modeled after AMBER and Silver Alerts, the PURPLE Alert would be a new statewide emergency notification system designed to quickly notify the public when an adult with an intellectual or developmental disability goes missing. This kind of rapid response can make all the difference — saving time, mobilizing help and saving lives.

What’s Next?

The bill has now passed both the House and the Senate with complete bipartisan support. The final step? A signature from Governor McKee.

If signed into law, the PURPLE Alert will become a powerful new tool in Rhode Island’s emergency response system — and a major victory for disability rights and safety.
