Purple Alert Bill Passes the Rhode Island House

PROVIDENCE, RI –  The House of Representatives has unanimously passed the PURPLE Alert bill. This brings Rhode Island one step closer to launching a statewide alert system for missing people with disabilities.

But we’re not done yet.
✅ The bill still needs to pass the Senate
✅ It must then be signed by the Governor to become law

We’re working hard to make sure that happens — and you can help.

📢 What You Can Do:

  1. Share the news on Facebook to spread awareness.
  2. Contact your state Senator and ask them to pass this bill

This legislation was introduced by Representative Tina Spears, with support from Rep. Paplauskas, Rep. Noret, Rep. McEntee, Rep. Read, Rep. Cotter, Rep. Craven, Rep. Fogarty, Rep. Hull, Rep. Tanzi and Rep. Felix.

If passed, the Purple Alert system would:

  • Enable a faster, more coordinated response when a person with a disability goes missing
  • Boost public awareness to help safely recover individuals
  • Put Rhode Island on the map as a leader in disability safety, becoming the sixth states to address this critical gap

Let’s finish what we started — and make sure every Rhode Islander is protected.

Let’s get this done. 💜 💚
