The state will now establish a Purple Alert system, a dedicated statewide initiative to help locate missing individuals with disabilities.
This is a victory for disability rights and safety in our state. Thanks to your unwavering support, Rhode Island is now the sixth state to have this alert after bipartisan support.
What Does This Mean?
The passage of HB 6165/SB 983 will provide:
- A faster, more coordinated response when someone with a disability goes missing
- Increased public awareness to safely recover individuals
