The Rhode Island State House was glowing green, and it’s not just for looks.

Each year, the building lights up for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month because of the John E. Fogarty Foundation.

This year, the State House was green from March 22 to March 25.

Moments like this give people a chance to stop and think. There has been real progress when it comes to including people with developmental disabilities in everyday life. More spaces are becoming accessible. More voices are being heard.

At the same time, there is still work to do.

Inclusion is not just about awareness campaigns or one month out of the year. It shows up in daily life. It is about whether people feel welcomed in their communities, supported at work and school and treated with respect.

This lighting reflects the efforts of a community that continues to push for change.

Rhode Island is moving in the right direction. Now the goal is to keep that momentum going, not just in March, but every day. 💚
